Laurie David from stopglobalwarming.org has some really great tips on how to make this years Halloween, GREEN!

The colors orange and black come to mind when thinking about Halloween, but this year, take a little time to make your Halloween celebration green. Here are a few tips to trick out your festivities with more environmentally-friendly alternatives:

• Support your local growers and pick up your pumpkin at a local farmers market instead of the supermarket. When you are done carving, be sure to scoop out the seeds and roast with some salt for a nutritious snack. And when Halloween's over, compost your pumpkins, bury them, or place them in an out-of-the-way place in your yard to serve as a treat for passing wildlife.

• Be sure your little goblins use a reusable candy tote. An old pillow case or canvas shopping bag will do. Get creative and decorate your bag to be re-used each year.

• Instead of picking up a prepackaged costume made from unrecyclable materials, swap costumes with your friends. Or check out a local thrift store to pick up lightly used pieces for your costume.

• Skip the elaborate decorations and just change out your light bulbs for some orange and black CFL's. Use some beeswax candles instead of petroleum-based ones to spook up your house.

My Better Half For Fall 08

As an avid bag lover with boxes full of bags and purses to prove it, buying a new fall bag was pretty much a given. Luckily for me I didn’t have to look any farther then the place I spend my days at. Roots.

As a girl who likes to get the largest surface area possible for the money I spend and the ability to carry my entire life in a bag, I naturally turned to the Roots Café Bag in Chocolate Prince Leather.  It has it all. Pockets for my iphone, ipod, makeup, room for books and of course an umbrella (which I now carry every day because really who knows with this weather…), but one thing I do know is that I have definitely found my better half for Fall 08.

"The Great One" and Me

Hey Everyone,

My name is Chris Whaley, and I am the Manager of the William St. store in Ottawa #184. On Thursday October 16th 2008 I was blessed with a visit from "The Great One" himself. He only wanted to get himself a winter hat and stayed to please a small crowd of myself and two other employees (Sidney and Wendy). Wayne joked around with us while in the store first telling us he doesn't sign autographs and then with the disbelief on our faces, letting us in on his secret that he was kidding. He told us he knew our owners well and that they made a good decision of putting a store in the Market. After signing the pictures, we had ready for him, he then made a long time fan, from the age of four, (ME) the happiest person on the earth by taking a picture with me. having him stand beside me and see the flash go, I knew I would never forget that moment EVER!!

Thank you Wayne, one of the nicest people I have ever met, I will never forget what you have done for me.

Thank you all for reading my story and I leave you with a picture of that night.
